Murder Suspect Who Stabbed Woman During Domestic Dispute Back In DC To Face Justice: Police

The man arrested states away in connection to the murder of a beloved woman late last year has returned in the nation's capital to face justice, authorities announced.

Alberto Valle-Carranza is back on the East Coast following his arrest in Indiana one day after the fatal stabbing of 31-year-old Reyna Garcia-Lopez in Northwest DC last December.

Shortly after 2:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2023, officers from the Metropolitan Police Department responded to the 1200 block of 11th Street NW to investigate a reported domestic disturbance. 

Upon arrival, they found Garcia Lopez suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The following day, Valle-Carranza was arrested by members of the Great Lake Regional Fugitive Task Force in Michigan City, Indiana.

The department announced on Wednesday, that Valle-Carranza has been extradited back to DC, and the 54-year-old has been charged with second-degree murder while armed for his role in Garcia Lopez's death.
